Comments on: Ontario Northland 1521, one of three FP7s painted in the “Progressive” paint scheme (the others were 1502 and 1517), idles at CN’s Spadina facilities in the spring of 1966. Note the steam powered crane, CN shed tracks, CN Express cars, CN Telecommunications Building (151 Front Street West), Front Street crossing leading to the CP Express Sheds, CP John Street piggyback facility (trailers), CP Royal York hotel, TTR John Street tower, and Union Station…looks a bit different today, eh?

The actual date is Sunday May 1, 1966. Myself, Doug, and John Read visited Spadina and CN Toronto Yard.
Initially the 1521 was nose coupled with ONR 1515, as I was writing everything down. We walked through the entire roundhouse and all we got were waves & smiles.
( hasn’t anyone located all of Doug’s notebooks ? ).

The ONR FP7As were regular units on the Northland which was normally powered by one unit from the ONR and one from the CNR.
What is really impressive is all three paint schemes on those ONR 40′ box cars!!

Doug, What a great shot of Spadina and the old Front St. area. Lots to see in that view. Are you able to make out the CN running number on the crane? I’m thinking CN 50134 or CN 50834.
