Comments on: Ore loads inbound on the N&NW Spur: CN C630M 2022 sports white extra flags as it heads up an ore train from the mines up north (with the usual mix of CN and ONR ore cars) on its final stretch through Hamilton, taking the Ore Train Lead curve inbound to Dofasco. The crew has probably just activated crossing protection via the pushbutton boxes located by the switch, in order to proceed over Burlington Street (and under its elevated expressway portion) into the Dofasco grounds.If the track diagrams I’m reading are correct, the three tracks in the foreground are the Bayfront Lead to Dofasco (centre), Lysaught Lead (right), and Coke Oven Lead (left). I believe it had something to do with one of the companies it served before Dofasco took over the majority of the lead when they expanded. To be confirmed when I hear back from the TH&B book of knowledge

Only difference between then and now is the leg the ore train is on now is locked and tagged out of service. Has been for a very long time, SOR tagged it and left it since it was rarely used.

CP does not have track rights on that leg of the wye there, only the west side.

Indeed, the ore train will take the coke oven lead (briefly) then crossing over on the diamond with what exists now of the (now NSC used) track (diamond is still in place, but tracks removed from that track into dofasco) to lead into bayfront’s ore train track.

The trackwork has not changed a bit otherwise, same switch as it is seen is still there.

Here’s a pic of CP coming around the bend (facing north, opposite of Dan’s post above, which faces south) with the GP9 just going over the switches.
