Signals with a “dummy mast” attachment are still common place across the CN Transcontinental route, primarily at end of siding locations where the “Main Track” Signal is located to the right of a siding. A Dummy Mast equipped with a “light” is a rarity, as per the rules a light is not required.

Closer to this area a “Dummy Mast” attachment can be found on the Bala Sub. on southward signals at Boyne and at Rosedale (South).

There used to be a “lunar” light at the westward diamond signal on the CP St. Thomas Sub, at the location now known as “Carew”. It was there because the Woodstock CP/CN transfer track ran off the main just east of the Diamond signal. As Stephen noted, the lunar light indicated that the signal applied to the main, rather than the transfer track. I notice on Google earth that the transfer is now gone, so the dummy mast & lunar light should now be gone.

Nice photo, and shows off the “lunar” signal intent really nicely.

The yard track is still in place (gone before I started taking photos there) and it clearly indicates that the yard track is not included in that signal (so you may pass it if going to right)

AFAIK none of those signals are left around here and not sure if there are any left anywhere.. a rare bird

That is only the second photo I have ever seen of that unit, and the first while it was demonstrating on CN in 1989.
