Comments on: Part of CP’s 125th Anniversary celebration of the driving of the final spike, CP’s Royal Canadian Pacific made runs over the Nipigon and Heron Bay Subdivisions during the week of July 12th, 2010. On July 12th Thunder Bay employees and their family were given the opportunity to ride from Thunder Bay to Hurkett and return. The trip to Hurkett was rather uneventful and I was able to peak out the vestibule of one of the coaches to catch the power in the midst of running around the train, heading west down the siding. The ride home would be extended as the hot box just outside Hurkett and coming into Thunder Bay would be tripped for false hot box warnings caused by what I recall was an exhaust which vented down towards the track. We were delayed for quite a while around Mackenzie as we had to await GM approval to proceed into Thunder Bay.

@railwayguy the car on the tailend is CP 96, a "generator car". It got painted in Hunter's god awful paint scheme a few years after this picture. Appears it may have reverted back to the maroon paint in more recent years.

What happens in the north stays in the North John :) Actually a lot of neat stuff happens out there that just doesn't happen down this way.

Nice shot Dave, reminds me of my trip on the same cars behind 2016 a few years earlier - Aberdeen to Welland. Much shorter ride for me though :)

Very nice picture of an event that I did not know about. Thanks for sharing. Question, the 2nd last car looks like a sleeper with some duplex roomettes, but what is the end car ? John
