I dont think I’ve ever seen an era captured, both railway and ‘socially’….the 70s. Mind you I came into the world only 5 months later. BUT….VIA hadn’t been introduced yet. CN engines painted in the passenger scheme, that set them apart from their regular freight road haulers. The new Ottawa Union Station…only what? 10 year old structure, the first and only of this architectural design?

The “bunkhouse” for the Capreol passenger crews was in behind the Canadian National ticket booth. Spent many days there during the summer of 1968 as I worked the Panorama trains 105 and 106.

What a great photo! Many interesting small details that combine to make such a great photo, it almost looks staged. I like how it looks like Mom has stepped away to have a word with her teenage son, and Grandma is looking back to see how it’s going!
