Comments on: Pembroke native, the late Mr. Del Rosamond, captured CPR Pacific-type #1231 with a plow and spreader – circa 1959. Those familiar with RPca may recall that two years ago I had a number of Mr. Rosamond’s slides professionally scanned. The process was not in-expensive and not all of my slides were processed. I’m extremely grateful to Mr. Raymond Farand for volunteering to assist. He has carefully scanned the remainder of my collection and spent countless hours making colour corrections and repairing age -related slide damage. Raymond and the Rosamond family have graciously approved the sharing of my portion of the Rosamond collection here on RPca. Peter Newman

Thank you, Gentlemen, for your kind comments – I’ll pass them along to Del’s sister, Gloria. I spoke with her just the other day. Del passed in 2000, and she misses him dearly. It means the world to her to know that through his photography he hasn’t been forgotten. She is delighted that Del’s images are being shared, viewed and enjoyed.

Got to be late in the steam era, with a Pacific assigned to snow duty. This man had an eye for the mundane and he caught time in a single click. Probably the most wonderful set of steam era slide I’ve seen from north of the border. Thanks Del.

Raymond wrote in an e-mail, “This picture is one of my favourites. The train is located just to the east of the station at Pembroke. A stacked pile of lumber at the Consolidated Paper and Lumber Company site near the Ottawa River shoreline is just visible behind the caboose. I wish that we had more winters like that in the Ottawa Valley, with clear blue skies and clean white snow conditions. Good stuff.”
