Comments on: People. The people that make the railway move the people we photograph. While we stop taking photos they are still out there making the cut, walking the train, setting brakes, sometimes in weather that make us complain and go home. They don’t go home until the job’s done. Ontario Southland Railway had their final day in Guelph today, and while I went into work for a bit, I printed a banner at the last minute and met the trains to convince them to photograph the people who make it all happen whom the OSR crews happily obliged. This is Job 1, who work the mornings and get re-crewed by the 1400 re-crew, who taxi from the Junction in the OSR crew SUV to relieve the guys. To the right is the “RIP” train parked in the siding that Bill Purdy posted earlier. While they waited for their chariot to arrive, they had posed both trains together and I added to their decision by bringing banner, to the delight of the gaggle of people crowded along Dawson Rd. Pictured is Jamie Rolston, and Jim Frechette, in the hoggers chair is Peter Harwick. Mr. Rolston ran the first OSR train on January 2 1998 and helped closed things off today. Thanks guys!

For the record, g&w began takeover today August 29, but the first train should be August 31.

Same with the OSR takeover of GJR, they didn’t run a train New Years Day in 1998 upon takeover. But yes, the first train was Jan 2′nd.
