The final countdown. Those CN namesigns, insulbricked exterior...even the boarded up windows. It still presents plenty of character. My family did a trip VIA rail (yup...wordplay!) to Ottawa in March 1983. On the return trip home, I still remember the platform lights by the operators bay window, under the overhang lighting the darkness as the train came to a stop. I might be off in my years, but seems about right as the building was gone by the time we moved away from the area in 1985. Still nothing beat the old infrastructure, crossing 4 tracks with lighted gates on both sides of Broadway Street as an enthusiastic kid who loved trains. Any time I make it back now, I usually sit at the VIA shelter waiting for a freight to come rolling by on the line mainline still in place. Not the same, but lots of memories.
