Comments on: Posting this for the overall scene. Four Budds moving away from me, Niagara Falls bound. Interesting is the old stub track on the right; the old Merritton station (burned down in 1994) and the former city yard on the left which is pretty well gone now. In the distance is the Bridge 6 over the Welland Canal. The view from Hartzel Rd bridge, where I am standing, is now just a whole lot of nothing. And foliage has cut the angle down.

Love how the stub track does a kittke jog midway. in Model Railroading it would equate to bad track laying.

I wonder if that stub track was used by Pusher (assisting) Engines on the Thorold Sub. back in the steam days?

AW, you always bring back some great memories! I have set off cars in the stub track many times. The stub track is on what was once CN’s Thorold Sub to Pt. Rob and Merriton was where we got our train orders “on the fly” for movements on the Grimbsy Sub towards Hamilton. The portion from Merriton to Clifton had CTC Right beside the second Budd trackside looks like a block indicator..lol the bridge is indeed up as you can just make out 2 double reds near the bridge. There are also two CTC controlled derails to protect the bridge. If there is not a permissive signal at bridge 6 any movements passing the signal would be derailed away from the Seaway!

GM Foundry off on the left, the Merritton local called on the plant every week day (Foundry and Engine Assembly), was a major CN customer…great memories
