There is a way to not only preserve trains but also keep them in operating condition, in revenue service, for free – write to your local political representative urging them to maintain the operating grant for VIA’s Canadian.

Specifically the report below states that the Rocky Mountaineer is requesting that, at a minimum, subsidies for VIA’s “Canadian” transcontinental and tourist service be eliminated.

Very true, we have seen many amazing classic pieces of railroad history go to the torch and need to support preservation efforts.

It’s already at Mimico and may be at TMC already.

PRR5406, the problem with preservation is money. There isn’t enough money to preserve these cars. First you have to buy the cars ($10-30k each), then you have to ship them (the same amount of money is required to ship from Moncton!)

and that’s each.

Who has that kind of money lying around?

Please join and support a few preservation museums in your province, these are the groups you need to support – those that preserve equipment. The more members and supporters groups of all kinds have the more that will be preserved.

I thought the same thing too…just heard it mentioned that it was going to Orangeville for storage with the other Rapido car….

I thought it would’ve been maybe routed CN Mac Yard to CP West Toronto for interchange. You’re right tho who knows these days!

Really? Hmm unusual to move it on 435 as CN exchanges cars with CP on roadswitcher 549 in the evenings. Anything moving on 435 usually ends up at Oakville, but with railroads one never knows.

Rapido makes a nice save, retrieving a Budd car in good condition. Why others have not been saved, I can’t quite understand.
