Comments on: See ya later – this pair of former Aberdeen, Carolina and Western Railroad GP38′s (Straight 38′s) are shown waybilled and ready to go back to Larry’s in Ohio and they would be lifted by 557 that night. They’ve been on the property since the contract changed from OSR to Railserve in April 2008. OSR had the contract prior to that in April 1994 until 2008. Now the duties are shared by two black dip LTEX GP38-2′s with far less interesting paint than these two.

2077 still led and ran solo at times. No cab issues although the newer power was preferred when possible.

Matthew Whiteley told me that 2077 was still being used but usually as a 2′nd unit (not leading, must have had cab issues)

Either way, history now. I still haven’t found the black ones working – I plan to try a couple more times this year.

@stephenhost I was told 2077 was in storage unoperational deep in the Suncor facilty along with the red LTEX GP38-2 (number escapes me). So three were shipped out last Year to be replaced by the two black ones. Still haven’t seen those!

I didn’t know this when I took it, but 2077 was the unit that eluded me so bagging it here completed the collection of the pair working here.

Still wish I shot OSR more in Clarkson, only did it once

Great you documented this move Steve. My old neck of the woods. I would watch these units switch many a time as I did when I was a wee lad watching CN switch with the two SW1200RS’s out of Mimico at the time. Have yet to see the two black ones but possibly soon. Mother’s Day perhaps.

3830 was there for only a month or two, sent to LDS For a month or few, sent back to Clarkson for a few months then sent back to LTEX as it was a lemon. I shot it in service in July 2021 and in Sarnia not long after.

Nice view and photo. These units definitely look better that the current black units. I miss seeing them switching Clarkson Yard.

Nice picture Stephen and most interesting commentary, don’t think I ever saw these units, but have seen one of the “black dip” diesel’s lurking behind “oil cans” from a passing GO train. Had no idea diesels that once operated on a Carolina short line ended up in Clarkson, Ontario – these 2nd hand units sure got around. Who knows, maybe Larry’s will lease them out to some other shortline/switching operator rather than scrap them. Thanks for this, John

This picture brings back so many memories for me. Thanks for posting. I worked the Port Credit switcher, CN train 543, for a couple of weeks in October/November 1969. Our primary duties were to switch the Gulf Oil refinery at Clarkson. Power for our train, van hop to and from Port Credit, was either the 7021 or 7027. Thanks again….Don.
