Comments on: Seeing Terry O’Shell’s vestibule shot from VIA #1 The Canadian in May of 1983 http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=50408 prompted me to look through some old photos of my days riding CN passenger work trains and the Super Continental across northern Ontario when working ‘the west end’. This shot taken in the summer of 1977 has me leaning out the open Dutch door of a sleeping car on CN’s ‘Engineering Special’ as it curves around Duchabani Lake heading westbound into Westree, ON. I was hoping to wave to my brother who was working there at the time but instead caught one of his co-workers sitting on the front step of the Signal Maintainer helper’s house (another photo). Vestibule shots these days are all but impossible, but occasionally, an opportunity presents itself. ???? http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=49874

If the train didn't stop at Westree that day, then in about a quarter mile from this spot the hogger would have the throttle back in the corner for the 22 mile (18 minute) ride over to Gogama showing you just how fast those 4500s could go.
This photo brings back so many memories for me!! Thanks for sharing.

DOH! I'm missing more than the memo these days! Glad I have all these photos to remind me of where I was 30, 40, 50 years ago because my recall of events isn't what it once was! ????

You must have missed the memo. My two year tour of duty in Westree came to an end in March 1977. I on the Signal Gang by that time. The new tenant in the Helpers house probably enjoyed seeing someone waving frantically and photographing them though.

My thanks to Mr. Host for taking the time to do colour corrections, dust removal, cropping, straightening, and who knows what else, to make this photo acceptable for others to view on RP.
