Comments on: “Severing history” this was a sad day for me. I set my sights on the old CN CASO Subdivision east of Essex. I knew the rail train should be working somewhere that way and exited highway 401 at Tilbury and started checking most crossing west of their in hopes of catching the train. Just west of South Woodslee I finally located the train and it was a slow day of trying to get shots at a few crossings and across farm fields before the long drive back to Milton and that nights, night shift. The long trip rewarded me with a few good shots of something I would never get to do again. Shooting a train on the middle section of the CASO. Once such a mighty railroad with lots of history, today just a fading memory. Here we see one of the track crew cutting the rails at the Lakeshore Road 219 crossing, next the spike pullers will move in before the rail is lifted into place on the rail train. The rail here was apparently reused on a line out in western Canada.

When they got this CWR out West they discovered it was bastard rail and useless. CASO used oddball weight rail only NYC used. This required different size OTM as well. So, it all went for scrap. Big expense for rail train etc. was all for nought.
