Comments on: Shortly after the eastbound “Super Continental” passed, the Westbound counterpart came into view. Note that the “Skeena” was tacked on to the rear of the #3. This was SOP at the time. The “Skeena” only ran on alternate days, so one could catch the eastbound or the westbound, but not both #3′s running like this 6 days a week.
Bissell yard was put in to handle unit trains in order to keep them from clogging the confined Calder yard, a couple miles to the east .

A CN Hogger I knew loved getting the Rock Train because CN was not shy about throwing lots of good power on it. The Edmonton crews at that time took the train as far as Edson and an Edson crew took it down the Coalbranch to Leyland for filling while the Edmonton crew rested. When the Edmonton crew woke u, the train was ready to go back to Inland Cement. When I lived in Stony Plain, the westbound empty rock train went through town faster than the "Canadian"!

In all my time in Edmonton, I never saw the train that brought those limestone cars in to Inland Cement from the Foothills Sub.

Nice to see the cars for the Edson rock train off to the left. I think it still runs but with new stock. Those cars are the same as the old Temagami ore train.
