Comments on: Shown as Mattawa, ON., we are actually on the other side of the Ottawa River (Rivere des Outaquais)in an unpopulated area of Quebec. Power on this northbound Mattawa-Temiscaming Excursion train (Timber Train) is OVR 1703 & the Timber Train’s 3582. This service never caught on, and ran only 3 years. The 3582 ended up on STER, and that too folded.

Wonder if Via, CN and the unions associated with rail travel would get behind a plan to promote Canada AND train travel throughout the country?

It is a shame, Joe, and I think that the more our governments insist on raising taxes to cover their waste, the fewer Canadians are going to travel their country. So much of this country is stunning; but, alas, the trains are disappearing. Quickly.

Arnold, shots like this brought to mind an idea for a big coffee-table book loaded with photos, entitled "Scene in Canada." There are lots of folks in this country who have seen little of Canada beyond the area where they live. Such a book would represent an introduction to Canada. It would - hopefully - appeal to that target audience, and folks who love trains, and anyone with an eye for aesthetics.
