Comments on: Simply the best. Introduced by the CPR in 1955. “ The Canadian ” , a World Class train. And for a while CP Rail continued that tradition ….. shown in the final year…..1978 ……..then the Via’ized version…..well, you know the history. August 1978 was an interesting time: the Chateau sleeper in front of the Skyline Dome is in coach service due to extra passenger demand generated by an air traffic disruption.
GMD built CP Rail FP9A #1406 – #1414 powers CP Rail train #11 on the approach to Palgrave August 26, 1978. Kodachrome by S.Danko.

Amazing shot Steve! True 1970's Canadian rail-roading and photography at it's best. In 1988 I was fortunate enough to ride the 1988 VIA version across Canada before the re-routing. A trip of a lifetime and a lifetime of memories! - Ken Pieroway
