Comments on: So a few weeks ago we booked a trip to Great Wolf Lodge for my kids and 2 of their friends. 4 kids – a noisy loud hot and humid children’s’ playground. What could go wrong? How will I keep my sanity? Well, Amtrak provided some soothing relief, as long as I made sure to sneak out for it. And sneak out I did. From a technical (operational) standpoint, Niagara Falls Station is where, going back to the US, VIA crews (From VIA 97) are relieved and Amtrak crews (now known as Amtrak 64) take over – and at this point in the picture Amtrak is on duty. Within moments they’ll pull ahead and over the Whirlpool bridge (known as the Amtrak running track) and perform customs and immigration on the US side. It’s nice to have Amtrak back and there were of course lots of people using the service too. I’ll do this again next year probably since we had been making an annual habit of this before Covid.

Is this a new thing having crew change in the Falls? I was always had the understanding that Amtrak Crews took it right to Toronto and spent the night then returned on duty the next day.

Thanks - if we were on the Lakeshore line, sure... i'd take them for a ride! But Guelph requires a transfer at Union, and no trains run on weekends..

That and my wife's mobility issues really don't allow us to do it when it's a family affair and that's the case 99.9% of the time :)

Very nice picture Stephen, next time take the kids there on the train - rode this train to the Falls for a day outing with my 3 kids and 4 grand children in summer 2018, a huge success ! While they were noisy, laughing, jumping around, I relaxed with a rum & coke. Thanks to Amtrak for using the colourful 108 on the first runs. Someone needs to cut the grass and remove the weeds, feel like sneaking out one night with a weed whacker. My guess is that Amtrak Running Track begins where the grass is cut. Thanks for posting, John
