Comments on: Some mainline freight heading through downtown Toronto puts in an appearance at Bathurst Street in the late morning/early afternoon: five zebra-striped CN units lead #410 eastbound off the Oakville Sub, passing through Toronto Terminals Railway territory and around Union Station via the “high line”. Leading is CN M636 2338 and another 2300-series sister unit, a 2100-series Bombardier HR616, a 5100-series SD40 and a GP40-2W trailing. It’s unclear what the flatcar loads on the head-end are (frame loads? MofW or track stuff?).

The background is a mix of old industrial buildings and warehouses of nearby Liberty Village, and newer apartment buildings rising up behind them (foreshadowing the condo explosion in this area just a few decades away?). In the distance past the Strachan Avenue grade crossing is CP’s Parkdale Yard, looking somewhat empty. By this time dwindling local Toronto-area freight traffic had diminished Parkdale’s importance, and it wouldn’t be long before the yard was converted into a CAST container handling facility.
