Comments on: Something a little different. Back when there was some good variety of rolling stock compared to today, I would watch as trains rolled by, ready to snap anything unusual. This boxcar intrigued me. I have been unable to find out just how many cars were lettered for this railroad, but I did find that the Pearl River Valley Railroad Company was only 4.7 miles long. It ran from the NS connection at Nicholson, Mississippi to Goodyear, where it serviced the International Paper Company. They used to have one locomotive, which was a GE 65 tonner. I say “used to” because the road went under in 2007 after start up way back in 1917. It was one of those obscure lines, running so infrequently that fans, when they did find it, described the RoW as a “nature trail with rails”. This photo is ‘enhanced’ by the sign indicating the location, which is why I chose it for sharing.

I shot two of these on separate occasions in 2008, although they're on at least their third ownership now:

I couldn't resist going and checking in the Register after reading your caption. I had a hunch it was going to be worth looking into. It was. :-)
And your very Welcome.

Now that information I really appreciate. I have no idea where my old "Register" disappeared to or remember what year it is, but I always remembered looking up my name and lo & behold; there was ONE Mooney tank car. Mooney oil company or something, out of Cleveland. Oh I wish I had seen THAT one. :o)
Nice of you to retrieve PRV info for me THANKS

This is pretty interesting. I only have just one copy of the "The Official Railway Equipment Register" and luckily it is for 1977. They show that the PRV only had 50 box cars of this type 1000-1049, no other equipment besides the 65 tonner that you stated. To me, Arnold, you have found the proverbial "Needle in a Haystack". Just think of the odds of having 1 of the 50 cars roll by while you're there to take a picture of it. Quite amazing. :-)
