Comments on: Something I haven’t done since the late 1970′s is snap a photo looking forward along the side of a revenue passenger train through an open vestibule Dutch door. Just prior to VIA 692′s departure from Thompson, MB on August 5 of this year I was able to do just that from the doorway of VIA 8515 Skyline. There is no one left on the platform, and all that remains is for the two step boxes by the coaches at the front of the train to be tossed on board, and the “doors closed & secured” confirmation made before VIA 692 starts to move and continue the journey south to Winnipeg.

Paul, thanks for interesting information about the Thompson station. Am learning so much about the railway line to Churchill and the structures along the way thanks to your great pictures and informative captions - greatly appreciated, Not a bad looking railway station, certainly identifiable as such, nice paint colouring and looking well maintained by VIA. Just noticed the way you included the VIA lettering on the side of the passenger car with that on the end of the station - well done ! John

Paul, like you, very much enjoyed taking pictures from the vestibule, opening up the upper half of the dutch door, or simply riding there with my goggles on, taking in all the wonderful noises, the fresh air, and yes some dust and dirt but nothing like steam days. On my recent trip home from Quebec City, rode in VIA heritage coach and my son knowing my passion helped me into the vestibule and we snuck open the window one more time - loved every second Do you have any information about the Thompson VIA station ? It looks relatively new. Very nice phot, John
