Comments on: Soon to be “amber waves of grain”………. CP SD70ACU #6644, in it’s camouflage colors applied to Royal Canadian Air Force “Spitfire” fighter planes flown at the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944, rolls past the large grain elevator in Haycroft, Ontario on June 25, 2020. Grain, grain elevators, and trains combined made Canada great, but sadly the railroad no longer services this mill and all product is now shipped by truck which is an all too common reality in this new millenium.

Probably better as you shot it. Get too close and the wires might be more visible and cause a huge sky distraction. And as you note, 6644 would be overwhelmed by the building.

Was undecided when shooting whether to put the hydro tower in or not, but if I cut it out I think the mill would have distracted from the unit as it would have just mixed in with it. No DPU on this on this one as he came solo all the way from Chicago.

@awmooney I can imagine! Didn’t BC Rail (British Columbia Railway) rebrand/change their scheme to Red/white/blue so people could actually see the train for safety reasons? One of the reasons I heard anyway.

Ya know, Brad; your comment reminds me of a long time back when I tried to shoot the Goodwin Railroad in New Hampshire. Their paint was a solid dark green. And of course it was all forested area where this thing ran. Trying to get a shot of a dark green RS-3 in a dark green woods was one frustrating effort.

6644 probably would be camouflaged in the woods or a green scene if it weren’t for the ‘Adidas’ stripes at the back. Just the one unit or was there a DPU in the consist?

This is a nice scene. I would imagine you had to do a bit of thinking about how to make a better than average shot with only one unit up front to work with.
