Comments on: SOR’s last day of operations in Hamilton was December 13, 2018, and a couple of us were out that day to document the final action at P&H and Parkdale Warehousing. Since then, 4003 has sat stored serviceable at G&W’s Railcare facility in Hamilton. I hadn’t really paid it much mind, other than glancing over every time I passed by to see if it had moved or had finally left the property. I figured though I should grab one shot of it at least, and the nice soft light a couple of weeks ago was hard to pass on. The silos in the background belong to Bell & MacKenzie which I believe is in the abrasives/sandblasting business in some capacity. They receive rail service, and if you seen CN or CP in the industrial area with two-bay hoppers, there’s a very good chance those are going to or coming from Bell & MacKenzie. I don’t think the track into that facility is in very good shape, as I once heard CP crews questioning each other as to whether they should even have the power past a certain point.

Thanks Bruce - interesting news. Maybe it's changed and the lease expired in Hamilton. The SOR seemed to occupy a couple extra bays when they moved from the 1964 engine house in Hamilton to "Railcare" in 2013 and could have easily vacated it all to new premises.

Maybe Railcare is " their " shop but lately 4001, and now 2111, have gone from Nanticoke to Goderich for servicing.

Yeah I'm not sure when it's to start either. Most curious as to when though.

I've seen CP power back in there around Railcare a few times

I haven't heard or seen of any construction.. the most I've seen is some CP Rail trucks and people in behind the Railcare shop... which is curious because I've never seen CP go beyond the yard at Wilcox St.

I'm sure if anything is to happen it should be soon, there's been enough time to design and plan what to do and I'm sure the Gov't money has a time restriction for spending it :)

Indeed I had! It'll be interesting to see CP move a little further west.

It'll be interesting to see how long this lasts here. Then again, it could go to Nanticoke when needed if other power has issues as it's still the SOR's home shop location.

A year so far!

James you did hear about the plans to connect the Bunge/BIOX area leads to the Bell & Mackenzie lead? The port plans to connect the two to allow two railway service to the west end leads , which right now are CN (nee SOR) only.
