Norfolk Western and Southern had many units built with dual control stands. Interesting that the trainman is not holding on to any of the handrails while the train is moving? Something we can get in big trouble for.

I believe from what I have been told the cut out in the front of cab allows for a seat on either side of the control stand making it easier to operate long hood forward without the engineer stretching his neck
Maybe Someone can varify this.
