Comments on: Southern Ontario Railway had a rough day today. RLHH 2111 died on 598 in Brantford. After about three hours they managed to get it back in service. Having oil splattered all over it inside and out, I assumed it had a more severe problem than it did. At Garnet, 595 had their own issues with 3403. A SOR mechanic was on hand to work his magic to get it running again. I don’t know if he was successful or not.

Some of these gons are appearing on GEXR too - one set off in Guelph yesterday likely for Metro (Gerdau). Hadn't seen any in this neck of the woods for a while since a bunch were stored in the CP/GEXR interchange in Kitchener a number of years ago - this was back after they were used to haul construction waste on 330/331 for a year or two then that ended suddenly.. and a large number stored in Kitchener. Eventually they started being released for other service, the below mentioned A&M Metals in Hamilton using a crap ton of them..

Correction. I just saw on CHCH news that demolition has begun at OPG Nanticoke. The "garbage cars" are most likely hauling out demolition debris... that makes more sense.

SOR is handling lots of those garbage gons right now. I counted 24 one day in the yard at Brantford a few weeks ago.

Yes, but we believe they're being used to haul scrap steel to Stelco. I haven't been able to see inside one to confirm, but I imagine if it is scrap that it's not loaded very high in the cars.
