In November 1945 modifications to add a vehicular deck for road traffic were completed providing a road link to Manitoulin Island. The bridge was shared by rail and road traffic until the abandonment of the rail line into Little Current. Now known as the Little Current Swing Bridge, it carries a single lane of road traffic and a pedestrian sidewalk. The bridge is a designated Ontario Heritage Property. A new bridge is planned to be built to the west of the existing bridge.
