Comments on: Street-running on a gloomy wet day, CN C424 3232 heads north up Ferguson Avenue on the Hagersville Sub in Hamilton, leading train #466 not far from arriving at Hamilton Yard. A nice selection of NYC jade green double door boxcars trails the power (perhaps one of the resident locals/experts knows what traffic they handled and from where). Judging by the “mountain” (Niagara Escarpment) in the background, the train has just come onto the street-running portion, not long after having descended the steep grade into the city. Pinpointing the exact spot today is difficult due to some of the housing along this stretch having been redeveloped, but I believe this is around Jackson Street or Main Street.

I get to wondering whether this is far enough up the line that the Barton St Jail was eventually built around this location, as I do not recall this stretch of homes. (The photo is 1967 and the Jail opened in 1978)
Reggie would have heard this one coming and scrambled out the door.
Terrible weather!!!

Wasn't 466 a Dunville Sub train? Maybe a detour? As you say, Rob, leave it to Reg!

Given that this train is travelling north from Caledonia and the preponderance of NYC boxcars, I'd guess this is interchange traffic from Hagersville.

These double-door, Despatch-Shops-built 50' boxcars were often used to carry auto parts. I don't know for sure if that's the case here, but it could be that these cars would be forwarded to either Oakville or Oshawa.
