Comments on: Tens of thousands of years ago, retreating ice-age glaciers carved the land creating the Niagara escarpment, and I’m sitting on the edge of it all on a beautiful fall day, I witness two trains almost side by side heading down the hill with foliage at peak. A beautiful place for a visit and last years colours were the best in years. If anyone plans to go: The place is called Websters Falls Conversation Area and you can hike in from the bottom or the top, but be warned: The peak is over-run with tourists, and it is only getting worse. And I’m not kidding, thousands of people on any given day during fall peak colour season. For best results, if sunny, the light is good from sunrise to 1030, after which it starts to become backlit for trains. Sometimes you get eastbounds, sometimes you don’t, but go to enjoy, you won’t be dissapointed.

There was police blocking off some parking but we could still park. The shitty part is the cost. That threw me off because I thought this place was not that popular and you could just explore and walk around for free. You can for free down by track level. It was also crowded down there. I have no idea where all the Chinese came from but I swear it felt like I was in China again. They were even hanging out on the Dundas Sub and taking pictures! Too bad I didn’t get a train because I really wanted to see them all scatter haha. I would have told them about the oncoming train if I picked up word on the scanner. We left well before the sun went down. I would have waited if I didn’t have my wife with me…arghhh. Women and trains just don’t mix, at least my woman. She is not a fan at all In conclusion, yes, it is overrun my tourists. So you’re right, earlier is probably much better, and for eastbounds as well. CN 148 did go through on our way up but I think the lighting was already bad. We also didn’t get there until closer to 12pm.

A few friends tried to go this weekend and I’m told OPP was directing traffic and some couldn’t even get in..
