Comments on: TH&B 53 is an NW-2 from EMD in LaGrange, IL with serial number 5705, built in January of 1948. It was sold to Atlas Specialty Steel in Welland, ON for scrap in May of 1988. I captured it around the Aberdeen Yard complex back in the summer of 1974.

They are oil lamps modified by TH&B Forces to electricity. Considering these were probably converted in the late 1940′s… the lamps themselves are otherwise quite dated in age.
