NS still has a whack of SD40-2's, not all entirely gone, many are being sent for rebuild into ECO's though.

But yeah they've been on a model purge - part of the 'psr' mentality is to reduce the number of locomotive models so you have more streamlined shop forces and less specialization..

NS eliminated all the oddballs... CP did the same thing too..

The NS down here in central Ohio runs their locals with GP60's. Or more recently SD60's. They purged their roster of 40's and many older units at the depth of Covid.

Yeah. About 10-15 have been sold off in the last few months, most had major damage (frame, etc) or major engine work required. They are being sold off as soon as major issues and I fear that they are next on the chopping block.

The GMD-1's are all for sale now, and there's still about 60-70 GP9's left..... for now

The absolute truth is the can't just sell them / remove the GP9's without a plan to replace them and that plan has not been announced or seen yet.

That's too bad. Those rebuilt CN GP-9's are some of the best rebuilds that I have seen.
