Comments on: The Barrie Commuter train ( pre GO ) was stored overnight at the south end of what was remaining of the former GTR Allandale yard. The building to the right is the GTR built Master Mechanics Office (in situ) that was adjacent to the now removed GTR built roundhouse Two FPA’s, #6758 / 6776 , including the rare (one of two) FPA-2u #6758 ( ex CN FPA-2 #6755 ), are at the head end for Monday’s train #146 to Union The coaches were a mix of some of the oldest ten (or so) coaches on the VIA roster, most were the six wheeled ex CN 5200 series coaches with swivel or rotating reclining seats some still in CN black & white livery That train was ‘heritage’ as of 1982 ! At Allandale yard, July 4, 1982 Kodachrome by S.Danko what’s interesting, FPA-2u #6758 is an upgraded ( from 244 engine to 251 ) ex CN FPA-2 #6755 (MLW 1955), in 1987 to NY&LE as their #6758 ( in power blue with yellow accents) the following from Bruce Forsyth’s website ‘militarybruce’ The former [GTR] railway Master Mechanics Office, to the east of the station, also remains in use as a community centre, now called the Southshore Centre. The former GTR roundhouse was demolished around the time of the station’s closure, but work floor of the roundhouse, along with the filled-in work pits, remained until 2017, when it was covered over during the creation of Barrie’s Military Heritage Park. A round concrete band was placed to represent the exterior roundhouse walls, partially encircling a hill on top of the roundhouse’s footprint that offers a good view of the various park features. sdfourty more Allandale ( masquerading as Barrie ): CP Rail at Barrie !
