Comments on: The clean-up continues after two CN movements collided head-on just to the west of Sunnyside Station. Luckily there were no fatalities, but CN did call in the CP big hook to assist. Looking back, it is amazing how you could pull over on the Gardiner Expressway, and even get that close to the action without being challenged. Oh how times have changed.

Great image Steve! It reminds me somewhat of a Hitchcock scene. I noted the stark contrast of the modern CN ‘noodle’ applied to the black coupe compared to the vintage lettering and symbols as seen elsewhere on the equipment.

They probably have the Gardiner closed while the recovery was being done. That red station wagon would be from the Toronto Fire Department and the on lookers would be from the papers. There were three newspapers then all publishing several editions so local stories received updated coverage through out the day.
