Comments on: The CN Boyne – CP Rail Reynolds (mile 19.9 Parry Sound Sub) interchange commenced daily use by Via on October 29, 1978. ( I believe the interchange was put in place to accommodate Via ). The northbound Via transcon (westbound in Via’s timetable) train operated CN track from Toronto to Boyne (Bala Sub mile 146.1 ) then interchanged to CP Rail. At that time to get onto CP the northbound Via train had to back up from CN ( the CN switchpoints faced north, until sometime after 1985 ) onto the CP. Today Via operates the all CN route, except where CN-CP Shared Asset zones exist. In this series of three images ( in all images #9 is on CN track ) – under thundering Muskoka skies, then in a deluge ( our campsite thoroughly soaked at the nearby Oastler Lake Provincial Park ), August 10, 1985 Via Rail train # 9, powered by FP9A # 6505 and F9B units #6632 – 6613, pulls slowly through CN Boyne and through the south switch South Parry siding then reverses to the interchange switchstand where the tail end Brakeman ( riding dry in Glacier Park ) exchange the interchange switchstand key with the Trainman – then gets caught in the downpour. What’s interesting: please also see Arnold Mooney’s CN Boyne image taken one week later – August 17, 1985 – train #10 with 6505 – 6632 – 6622.

Most interesting: you must try camping overnight – at least once at Oastler Lake P.P., a mere 200 yards from the CN – CP mainlines – including grade crossings – even the camper’s guide states “ note railway tracks near the Park are used frequently “ . Even so, there are always camp sites available early each morning as sleepless campers leave !
