Comments on: The CP Canadian is shown here leaving Union Station in downtown Toronto for the western run to Vancouver. Back in the days before VIA, we see CP 1416 and 1400 up front. I’m wondering if that heavyweight coach behind the power was on the RCP train to London yesterday? Toronto financial district in the background, and off to the left, the offices of the Globe and Mail newspaper, aka: Mop and Pail. The skyline pales compared to today.

I was pleased that CP put the business cars at the front of the train. Even CP president N.R.Crump's car (Laurentian, I believe) was never behind the Park car. The G&M - "mope and wail" was another nickname - building was recently demolished.

Another Mooney Shot from the past when it was possible to actually drive to downtown Toronto to get train pictures. Excellent view but the Action Red locomotives were, IMHO, a little garish for a premium train.
If I recall, that building was opened by the Toronto Telegram newspaper and taken over by "The Mop" following The Telly's demise.
Toronto was still a low rise city at that time other than "The Core". Thanks for getting that shot Arnold and thanks for posting it.
