Comments on: The CPR Waterloo subdivision runs 10 miles from Galt to Kitchener and T97, a local based out of Hagey yard in Cambridge (about 4 rail miles south) is arriving at the CN/CP interchange yard in Kitchener with cars of agricultural products. A lot of GEXR’s CP cars come through this interchange as far as I can tell. What was nice about this is the pair of matching Beaver paint schemes introduced in 1997 See Jason Noe’s photo here of the introduction train which were ubiquitous in the early to mid 2000′s are becoming rarer and rarer – except now being re-introduced on the rebuilds out of Progress and Wabtec. I enjoyed this scheme am glad it’s coming back – but these two really look worse for wear. History notes: This track pictured was put into service on 1 October 1961 for the re-alignment of the then Electric Grand River Railway. The new Highway 8 was built on some of their old alignment and instead of electrifying the new railway the decision was made to dieselize which happened on the same day. A deal was reached with the CNR to share the Huron Park spur (Then CNR Waterloo subdivision) between South Junction and North Junction where the CPR got back onto their own rails to Waterloo on the rest of the Grand River Railway. Just north of here is still known as South Junction where CPR gets onto CN rails to switch the interchange yard and the CPR can be found as far north as the highway underpass. Two beaver GP38-2′s in 2019 is pretty crazy. In fifteen years of shooting CP I don’t believe I’ve ever shot one.

I checked Google Earth and it split at Victoria Park, crossed West Ave/Victoria St. behind the bowling alley then up to the north main. I’m not sure the routing between Union St. and Caroline St. but I think it joined the Waterloo Spur at Erb and Caroline (where the present-day LRT NB and SB lines meet).

Interesting history caption. I’m trying to recall this line because I was really young when it was abandoned. Was the North Jct near Gage and Belmont? – Grade separation where the CP line went under the CN main. You can still see the bridge today I think.
