Comments on: The ‘crack of dawn’ train for North Bay, usually out of Englehart before 0600, is seen here in the early morning sun rolling past the historic Cobalt station. Power is ONR 2104, 2101 and 2105.The Ontario Northland finally moved into the “big time” with the acquisition of six new SD75I locomotives in 1999. Currently five of them are still active, with first delivered 2100 lost in a derailment back on 2011.. The Cobalt station looks to have been renovated, and is currently listed for sale. Talk about a railfanners headquarters !!!

Thanks, John. The glorious fresh air reminded me of when I was a kid and stress seemed to be non-existent. Most northern towns appear to be frozen in time. Whatever the populations were 40 years ago, they’re still the same. )

Great picture Arnold, very nice including Cobalt’s beautiful station and reflection in in the water. Hopefully in 2025 part of this station will be back in use to serve the very long promised, long awaited return of Nortlander train service, that’s if politician promises can be believed; time will tell whether or not it was just another huge lie/hoax.
