Comments on: The daily N&W train from Windsor to Fort Erie this day sports a couple of C-30-7s, but the unusual feature here is the second unit, NW 8080 in maroon paint. As far as I can recall there were very few of these, perhaps only a couple, I think 8079 was the other. Anyone with information? And why this deviation from the almighty Black?? A great catch, and made this days’ meandering down to Fort Erie a memorial one. One can just see the QEW overpass in the far right background.

There were 4 or 5 maroon C30's, 8010 and 8077-8080. It was a throwback to their early diesels, which were delivered in this colour. The blue came later after the WAB + NKP merger

Yes!! There were a few dark blue Geeps in and out of Fort Erie back then; notes not handy but I think they were 3400 series. I remember one paint distinctly; had Norfolk & Western on the sides in a yellow block-ish style, unlike the usual. Have some photos around here somewhere...........

The maroon paint was a trial/proposed paint scheme that didn't catch on.

Great shot! Very hard to find many NW shots around here. I have seen a few NW units in this paint but don't know why, it was a nice change from black though.
