Comments on: The first two units on this eastbound “Canadian” show a little pride of ownership. The third unit, however, looks like it had been dragged through a tarpit. I am not too sure what the story is on the 2nd and 3rd cars, though. This is definitely not standard VIA paint.

That is interesting. I wonder what the big deal was that brought these cars out. Expo 86 would open in less than a month and CN had a pavilion. Perhaps there was a preview for the VIP’s? But a month out”

I’m guessing the first car behind the power is likely business car CN 93 which was assigned to the VP of the then CN Mountain Region. VIA required CN to repaint its business cars in VIA blue/yellow but without the VIA at the end of the stripes. The blue & white cars trailing the CN business car are VIA 1 & VIA 2 which were formerly the Governor General of Canada’s business cars.
