Comments on: The Head of the Class !! First of an illustrious series of SD40 locomotives on this railroad, CN 5000 leads a westbound on approach to Bayview Jct in the late afternoon sun of a mild November day. This unit was built in September of 1967 and held on almost to the bitter end. There are none left on the once 241 strong on the CN roster and this unit was one of the last dozen to be retired. Don’t really know, but I assume it was scrapped. Seeing this was a surprise, as I thought it was based out West. Second unit is 5281.

If you go down the photo page under’ province’ you can find and and use the ‘share link’ it’s the shorter URL. Every post has a share link, both it and the long URL work just fine.

I thought I heard years ago that unit was to be preserved but no sure what happened to it in the end. I was thankful I caught a lot of them later as Alstom rebuilds. Beauty shot!

Very nice. A few of them stuck around and some made it to this area before being retired, as late as 2005. I didn’t get very many.. even fewer leading.
