Comments on: The last run of the CP Canadian #2 prior to the switch to CN track.
Medonte Station could be a busy place with the tracks to Port McNicoll and Uhtoff quarry branching of just north of the station.

Now the train and station are long gone at this location

Make that #12. I'm surprised Norm's farewell run banner applied by his co-workers is marked as #2. It looks as if we've all made the same mistake.

The hogger who was retiring was Norm Schroeder. He frequently snuck me up into the cab of #2 at West Toronto for rides to Union Station and then over to John Street. The West Toronto afternoon operator was Clare Schoester, who had hired on with Norm as a brakeman. He said he regretted not following Norm's advice to transfer with him to engine service because he was later involved in a switching accident at Parkdale Yard that cost him his left arm and almost his left leg. Both wonderful gentlemen whose like we'll not see again.

I took a B&W shot of #2 with Norm's farewell banner up near Woodbridge, but it's nice to have this much better colour shot. Thanks for sharing it!

More photos of this area would be great. I was up there in the early 90's so I saw most things before the rails were pulled up on the Port sub. A lot of people have helped out with photos and information over the years.
