Comments on: The Mon-Fri CPKC Regina turn borrowed work train-assigned CP 6069 and CP 5798 from Moose Jaw this week, whilst the regularly assigned 4-axles were busy doing orders for the Bulyea Sub. Looser restrictions on local power allow them to run through the steep Qu’Appelle Valley grades while work train power has to be treated with a higher standard of care if they are to do any revenue runs. Thus, this SD40 pair had a couple of days to themselves as substitutes to pick up the power shortage slack. I had coincidentally taken the day off from my summer job oblivious and hoping for GP38 action, so it was with much gratitude that I saw this oddball power on temporary revenue service.

@Aitch both types of cars are for the Evraz Steel, gons are empty scrap cars and the coil cars stored in the J19 and J20 sidings are empties brought back to Regina, probably overflow traffic to decongest the downtown yard. They get taken back and forth by 1430 and 2230 yard jobs on weekdays as needed. Note the dimensionals on E44 too, behind the gons and the boxcar, those are pipeline parts also manufactured at the Evraz steel mill in Regina. More than half of all of our local traffic is because of those guys :)
