Comments on: The New Brunswick Railway Museum is home to many unique pieces of rolling stock and locomotives that once operated on the now abandoned lines across the province. One of their more unique pieces in their collection is CN 55698 a double ended snow plow. Being double ended allow crews to just run the locomotive around the plow rather than having to wye the whole train. It saw many years of service in hard East Coast Winters before being retired and ending up on display at the museum.

I believe there were a total of 4 double ended plows constructed by CN in 1939 at their Transcona shops in Winnipeg, MB.
Numbered CN 55696-CN 55699, they were designed for use on subdivisions where no wye existed to turn the plow for a reverse direction movement. P.E.I. was where at least two of the odd-ball plows spend much of their working lives.
I am not aware of any similar plows on other North American roads.
I have an article here somewhere that I will find and attach to a separate message.

Was this design unique to Canadian railroads? I have not seen any other pictures of plows in other road service.
Maintainance on the trucks must have been difficult with those skirts covering the works
