Fun fact, most of the shape of an F-unit nose is bondo – tonnes of it. That’s how EMD got those curves on their famed “Bulldog nose”.

This is interesting and very informative. I look forward to grabbing shots of this one and 6508 when it comes out freshly painted. 6508 is very ratty looking indeed. And Steve it’s funny you mention bondo. Carbon fibre car hoods need lots of it too

As it was explained to me by OSR, 1620 arrived with beavers and large Canadian pacific logos on sides and front. After removing the logos and decal (required by cpr post sale), enough of the engine was stripped, so osr decided to just paint the whole thing, may as well.

6508 will take a while – one word as to why – BONDO. Lots of it. looking forward to it though!

Could be the start of repainting a few units. Supposedly rusty ol’ FP9 6508 is scheduled to hit the paint shop soon.

The paint on the ex-RLK F’s looks to be in decent condition so they probably just patched and pressed them into service. Painting a whole locomotive is an expensive affair, and if the paint on it is in good condition (like the former RLK FP9′s) or only a few years old (like the CP SW1200RS units) there’s less of a push to repaint right away.
