Comments on: The old CN Dunnville station at mile 38 of the subdivison of the same name. The track would be pulled up within a couple of years and I understand the structure ended up being used for storage. I understand this building was removed later in the 1980s but do not know anything else about it. Anyone??

Unfortunately, that is true….but like I said, I’m a little ‘fuzzy’ on my notes since most information I’ve learned about stations, was all from memory through reading books, conversations with other enthusiasts, etc. It could have been a fire that started during restoration too….sadly, although not as majestic as its predecessor, another piece of history, lost.

I have a postcard of the old turret station and it was majestic, to say the least.
So this station pictured is still another that may have been torched by vandals? If so, they certainly have an impressive, but disgusting, record.

Alright station buffs…

….this structure replaced an earlier building that was turreted on the street side, but similar design trackside to the existing station at Ridgeway…even somewhat with Petrolia too. When the first structure burned down, by then CN had been incorporated and this was the replacement. From what I remember, it was planned to be ‘restored’ for a big Anniversary celebrating Dunnville’s incorporation as a town. Or it may have been a local business had bought it, planned to move and restore the building for use as their administrative offices….something to that effect (my note taking isnt as good as it once was!)

Anyways, not sure if it was deemed unsafe, or if vandals broke in…but it did burn down. I believe this happened mid to late 80s.

Yeah, thanks for posting this one. I’ve seen only one other shot of this station. With the truck there it looks like there was still some kind of activity or use here at the time.

I had family here and visited frequently – I never saw this line active (east of Caledonia anyway) but I’ve always been curious about its more contemporary use before it was removed. It’s very hard to find coverage of this one.
