Comments on: The sun was setting on these hulking MLW M-636 beasts back in the early 1990s, and so catching them always made my day when out trackside.
In this instance, CP 4703, 5509 and 4736 made for a nice head-end consist as they approached Concession 7, township of Puslinch, heading west, on a pleasant sunny afternoon.
This crossing was the scene of a major wreck back in the mid-70s, with two new SDs ending up in the swamp on the right side in this image. Some of you older dudes may remember it.

To Stephen's point, it was a good place to get the train going, but it could also be a terrible place to be in the van, there was some pretty good slack action across that stretch from Puslinch to Killean, referred to by one old Conductor as "the dardanelles".

I worked on the first train through the cleared wreckage. We were on 903 headed west & we got through sometime in the middle of the night after having brought a train to Toronto over CN lines. That wreck killed 2, the truck driver & head end brakeman, a friend of mine. The crossing was only protected by crossbucks. Years later a pickup with 3 young people drove into the side of a train at the same crossing, killing 3 I believe. Finally, after 5 deaths, flashing lights were then installed at the crossing.
