Comments on: The tail end of KRC’s Pukatawagan Mixed has cleared the 3rd Street West (Provincial Road 285) crossing and begins its northwest journey out of The Pas. The end of train device is firmly attached and connected to the trainline air hose of the trailing bulkhead flat. Today’s Puk Mixed consisted of units PRLX 2265 & PRLX 2269, baggage car KRC 3248, combination coach/baggage car KRC 5648, 3 plug door box cars KRC 691792, unknown, & KRC 410581, bulkhead flat WC 38289 with a load of new track ties, flat car KRC 667100 with a school bus, and bulkhead flat KRC 701213 with an unknown bagged cargo. Quite the spectacle.

I have a photo showing a school bus on a flat car near the loading ramp in Thompson, MB but will have to compare car numbers, dates, times, and other details to see if it is the same bus that was in the consist of The Puk Mixed. To my knowledge there are no road connections to Pukatawagan or intermediate points along the route.

Love the school bus “hitching a ride” to Puk ! Do you know if it was loaded in The Pas, or was it from some other HBR/CN point ? I assume that there is no road connection to Pukatawagan and intermediate points similar to going to Moosenee on the ONR. The only thing missing is a caboose, but the innovative tail end device has even made its way to this remote area. Interesting that it is blue, not red. Thanks for posting, John

Hi Michael. Yes, it certainly was a 'dogs breakfast' of rolling stock heading out of The Pas. I hope to be able to post a few interior shots of the combination coach/baggage and the baggage car in weeks to come. :-)

At one time, track PZ87 continued straight through a ways further before joining the mainline of the Wekusko Sub. You can see the switch and alignment with out the snow cover here 32 Provincial Rd 285 - Google Maps 53.8255744,-101.2473812,3a

That switch stand does appear to be just sitting there. Check out Google Maps to see the details. The track diverges off to the right and the frog is probably just under that bulkhead flat with the ties. The snow really makes this look strange.

I see a yellow yard switch lined against. The interesting part, where are the switch points or frog? The snow has even been cleared from around the rails. A mystery. :-)
