Comments on: The W.C. Wood Company was a long standing Guelph appliance factory which was situated near the downtown core and along Arthur Street in Guelph. The Wood family, which began the business in Guelph during 1930, had sold the company to an American based equity firm in 2007. Not long after in November 2009, the company announced the plant’s closure that included the elimination of 250 jobs. In later years the vacant building was demolished to make way for new upscale houses named the Metalworks. On a late June afternoon, CP 4222 is seen lifting a boxcar or two from the W.C. Wood Company plant at the Arthur Street crossing. The local had just previously switched the Owens Corning facility along York Road, which is where the Sandersville hopper was lifted from. While the lighting was not ideal at the time, 24 years later it does at least give a perspective of what the area looked like in 1996.
