Comments on: There is a good reason that a CN train is running through Kicking Horse Pass. Their mainline at Hinton is out of service due to the horrific VIA and CN collision. I wasn’t in the mountains to catch these detours. I just happened upon this one. We chased it back to Banff, where it became too dark to photograph. Someone would get a photo of this train in one of the popular railfan publications of the time. I did not see them, however. Note thare was a Cowled unit and the (or one of the) Expo ’86 SD-40′s in the CN consist. At the time, a pilot engine from the host RR was necessary.

cn5334 was,I believe,the only expo unit.
BTW,the cabs are no wider on the so called ‘wide cab’ units,it’s the nose that is wider! This has been a misnomer from the beginning.

Did you notice that the cab door on the SD-50 is open! Good thing that they put a CP SD-40 up front. Open front doors – just another downside of those wide cab models.
