Comments on: There it is …. gone!

June 9, 2022 at 18:20 hrs., I have detrained from VIA #2 and am walking the station platform area at Hornepayne, ON, but there’s no station!

27 months to the day prior to this photo, I snapped what was to be my final pic of the grand Hornepayne station/Division office building on March 9, 2020.

I also captured Hornepayne station on December 18, 2001 while working in the yard with some new snow clearing equipment.

Lots of memories of that building as my Dad’s office was on the second floor when he was the CN Roadmaster out of Hornepayne in the early 1960′s. As a young kid going to grade school in Hornepayne, I also recall numerous visits to the dispatching office and marveling at all the switches and coloured lights on the subdivision panels. Little did I know at that time, I would end up working at CN and return in the decades ahead to work in Hornepayne, and both east & west on the Ruel & Caramat Subs. on numerous Engineering Dept. projects. :-)

It was two years ago today on October 6, 2020 the Hornepayne station and connected buildings were demolished. :-(

As a follow up to my above comment, VIA Hornepayne is marked with a station name sign on a pole. There is no shelter or kiosk of any kind there.

The current CN Operations buildings in Hornepayne are a cluster of pre-fab units at the corner of Front & Third Streets, and a large building on Front Street (which was the Hudson Bay Company store back in the 1960's).

I did not see any type of structure, shed, or shanty being used as a VIA kiosk. I'll have a closer look when I take #1 again two weeks from today. :-)

I remember when Much Music did a cross country anniversary thing with bands and they stopped at Hornepayne station with the band 'National Velvet' playing. I'd love to dig up that footage. What do they have now? One of those construction type kit offices if at all?

The platform looks very barren without the station. Nice side view of your train.

That's for certain First954. I will always remember Hornepayne as it was a big part of my personal life growing up and my working career in later years. :-)
