Comments on: There were a few low numbered GP40-2L(w) locomotives on CN geared for 80MPH and they fit right in helping out VIA when necessary. Here we see CN 9430, with steam jenny behind, slowing in for a stop at Burlington West station. The woman in the photo looking over sure doesn’t seem to approve of me. Not a problem, believe the feeling is mutual. I was there for the train. Besides, CN 9430 was sold to ALSTOM in 2001 and I’ll bet she still looks pretty good.

Telephone booths are another item that have become somewhat rare.

Thanks for your message about the trio. :-)

Thanks for this. I was unsure of the car so rather than guess at it, I was hoping someone would clarify its' status and you just did.
Appreciated.

The first coach appears to be one of the old parlour cars that CN had modified many years before VIA was formed. The ones I rode in during these early VIA days often had the individual swivel seats and no facilities for heating meals. They were sold as "club with snack" at a lower fare than the club cars that had hot meals. Not all had the old parlour car seats, though; some of them had the modern "2+1" seating.
