When Stepan closed they cut the service to 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) and crewed the train from the spareboard at Mac Yard. The local customers remained, those being Kimberly-Clark at the north end of town, KWH Pipe (now Uponor)at the north end of the yard and Panolam down at Martins. Since then a “new” customer has been added, that being the Stella-Jones pressure-treating lumber facility in South River and the service has been increased to 3 days/week with a regular crew.

Do happen know to which industries train 595 currently serves? I’m surprised that the Huntsville yard wasn’t abandoned for I thought that it was mostly used for storing traffic coming to and from Stepan chemicals.

I’d say I noticed 595 traffic dropping off around a couple of months ago. There were a few more trips happening sporadically for a few weeks then nothing that I’ve seen or heard going by the homestead lately.
